After several years of working in mixed media combining painting, photography and encaustic I decided to revisit drawing as a primary medium in a series of large–scale pieces (each measures 48x72"). Aside from the dramatic impact afforded when working in these dimensions I was interested in exaggerating some elements, causing the subject matter itself to become more abstract. Using black ink allows me to strip the images down to their basic elements.
These drawings explore one of my main interests: the parallels found in nature. I chose to base my first series on insects and flowers, which share similar form, pattern and line. They are a symbiotic pair; each relies on the other for survival.
